Volunteer Opportunities

To show you care about someone with a brain disorder, to help breakdown the barriers to treatment and support, to help eliminate the stigma against those who suffer and to show you believe there is the possibility of HOPE and RECOVERY through education and SUPPORT, volunteer now.

Currently we are looking for volunteers to help our organization grow and continue with its mission.  We need help in all areas of our work from office support, teaching and supporting families, and untold other small tasks that will support our operation.  The next 1 1/2-2 hour orientation date is to be announced.

About Benita Council

Benita Council

Benita Council, a graduate of Howard University College of Pharmacy (1974) moved to Chicago, Illinois to work in the African American Community as a registered pharmacist. Two years after her graduation Benita opened her first pharmacy, and within another two years her second, both stores located on the south side of Chicago. Benita, a naive of Oakland, California then returned to her hometown in order to raise her children closer to her family. In 1984, Benita moved to Los Angeles, California and owned Baldwin Crest Pharmacy in the Crenshaw community until 2002. Benita is an active and progressive member of the California Pharmaceutical Association, holding several positions statewide within the Pharmaceutical Association from 1995-1998.  

Benita currently holds a seat on the Board of Directors of (UPNI) United Pharmacists Network Inc. a Statewide organization, involved with managed care and the survival of community pharmacists in Los Angeles, County. She is on the Board of (C. Y.S. A.F.) Community Youth Sports and Arts Foundation, a boy’s home and charter school located in the Crenshaw Community. Benita is a founding board member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Urban Los Angeles, CA chapter. 

Benita is board member with The Denise Roberts Breast Cancer Foundation, minority women fighting breast cancer. 

Benita is presently working as Pharmacy Manager with Fobi Comprehensive Pharmacy serving community members in board and care facilities, senior assisted living facilities, and others with special needs in Los Angeles. She has 3 grown sons, and is a member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
