    Family-to-Family Education Program a free, 8-session education program for family, friends, and significant others of adults with mental health conditions.

     NAMI Family-to-Family provides information about anxiety, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. Other topics covered include communication, problem solving, treatment and recovery. The course is designed to increase understanding and advocacy skills while helping participants maintain their own well-being.

     

    The program is taught by trained family members who have a loved one with a mental health condition. NAMI Family-to-Family is an evidence-based program (EB). For information on the research base for the program, visit nami.org/research.

    Family to Family

     NAMI Urban LA’s Family-to-Family Education Program is for family, partners, caregivers, and friends of individuals with serious mental illnesses. We cover these specific ones:

    • Bipolar Disorder (also called Manic Depression)
    • Major Depression
    • Borderline Personality Disorder
    • Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder
    • Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
    • Co-occurring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorder

    Do You Need Answers to These Questions?

    • What happens during a psychiatric crisis?
    • What type of treatment is available for those with mental illness?
    • What is the best way to communicate with my loved one?

    The course is taught by a team of trained family members who know what it’s like to have a loved one with a serious mental illness in the family. There is no cost to participate in the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program and all course materials are free. Over 115,000 family members in the U.S. and Canada have completed this course.     NAMI Basics

    NAMI Basics is a FREE 6-week program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children & adolescents with emotional & behavioral difficulties. NAMI Basics helps you understand the illnesses that are causing those behavioral difficulties, and the critical role families play in the treatment of those illnesses. The program is taught by trained teachers who are also the parents or family caregivers of individuals who experienced emotional or behavioral difficulties prior to age 13.

     

    DURATION:

    The course is 6 weekly sessions via Zoom.

    Family Support Group

    NAMI Family Support Groups are free, confidential and safe groups of families helping other families who live with mental health challenges. Families help each other by utilizing their collective lived experience and learned wisdom. Family members can achieve a renewed sense of hope for their loved one living with mental health challenges.

     

    We also offer a Family Support Group Program for Criminal Justice Involved Families. This support group is targeted to families with criminal justice system involvement. We provide the information you need to navigate the criminal justice system so you can help your loved one get the proper placement and help they need.

     

    DURATION:

    The course is 1.5 hour weekly sessions via Zoom.

    LPS

    NAMI Urban Los Angeles along with the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is offering a zoom class providing LPS Conservatorship information which is the term for California’s involuntary mental health treatment and information on the new CARE ACT. All are welcomed. Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) will also be discussed. This program is designed to walk you through the LPS Conservatorship process beginning with placing your love one in the hospital, acquiring financial resources (SSI, SSDI, Social Security) as well as insurance (Medicare, Medi-Cal), building a case for treatment, the legal court process along with laws and recovery expectations.
